Private Interior: A Masterpiece by BFA Barbara Fassoni Architects

Exploring the Dichotomy of Private and Public Spaces in a Luxury Penthouse

In the heart of Monza, Italy, a unique architectural marvel stands tall. A penthouse, designed by BFA Barbara Fassoni Architects, has been transformed into a luxurious living space that seamlessly blends private and public areas. The design, inspired by a myriad of elements, including the Arabic derivative mashrabiyya and the Giant's Causeway, has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.

The penthouse, designed for a family of four, is split over two levels. The lower level is dedicated to the family, while the upper level is designed to accommodate guests. The interior spaces are connected through a 7-meter corridor, lined with vertical linear dark wood paneling, leading to a steel staircase that connects to the upper area. The upper area features a TV-cinema living space, a guest room, a gym, a sauna, and a large veranda with a vertical garden.

The unique features of the design lie in its use of materials and light. Smoked glass panels, natural steel, brushed white oak, and cement resin are used to create a balance between the warm and cool tones. The use of large skylights on the upper floor allows natural light to flood the space, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The design also incorporates a vertical garden, adding a touch of nature to the urban setting.

The design process began in January 2015 and was completed in July 2017. The project was a result of extensive research, including the selection of mood images, color palettes, material samples, and suppliers. The designers also held several meetings with the clients to understand their needs and expectations. The result is a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and comfortable for the residents.

The design faced several challenges, including meeting the client's needs and proposing a new lifestyle with a less conventional approach to furniture and design. However, the designers were able to overcome these challenges by focusing on the details and considering how each element would be used. The result is a design that exceeds the clients' expectations and offers a new, contemporary, and sophisticated lifestyle.

The Private Interior design by BFA Barbara Fassoni Architects is a testament to the power of design in transforming spaces. It showcases the potential of architecture and design in creating spaces that are not only visually stunning but also functional and comfortable. The design has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award, highlighting its excellence and innovation in interior design.
